So with all this crazy political discourse buzzing around, I’ve been seeking out things that give me some hope so I would feel better equipped to deal with what’s happening. I managed to stumble upon Dylan Marron’s Conversations with People Who Hate Me on Youtube.
Marron is a so-called social justice warrior who brilliantly tackles all kinds of injustices dished out to “Others.” But he does it in such a clever way that you have no choice but to see a bigger picture and get clarity on some deeply complicated and divisive issues.
This podcast series is dedicated to people who have called Marron out and essentially hurled hateful comments his way about the work that he does. And instead of fighting fire with fire, Marron decides instead to have one-on-one conversations with these people.
They don’t always see eye to eye in the end, and that’s not even the point. The point is that we all have opinions and you are entitled to your as much as I’m entitled to mine. This doesn’t have to be divisive. It can even lead to some really eye-opening conversations. And it reminds us ultimately that despite our differences, we’re all connected.
This series is just what I needed to restore my faith in humanity. Hopefully, it will help you too.
Enjoy! Here’s the first in the series.
Warning: Harsh, profane language may be used during the podcasts.
